Biography for George
Young (Head Coach/Director
of Competitive Swimming)

Swam competitively for 9 years
-
Competed at the National USA level and is
a former National age group record holder 4 different times (in
the 800 meter 13-14 Boys Relays)

• Southern California Swimming Metro/Olympic
Committee “Age Group Coach” of the year, three times---1994,
1995 & 2007. Winner of the Service Award for the San Gabriel
Valley SCMAF five times---1996, 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2007

Coach for more than 27 years
-
Coach all levels of swimming: novice level,
top age group level – SCS record holders and USA SR national
qualifiers

Certified over 110 lifeguards and have been
responsible to exposing water safety awareness to over 10,000 participants
-
Winner of the USA Swimming Safety Award
in 2001 for his efforts in promoting water safety awareness to over
10,000 participants.

Certified American Red Cross Instructor
Trainer for all aquatic courses plus CPR & First Aid

Certified Pool Operator with over twenty
years of pool facility managing experience

In depth involvement in the political side
of swimming - former age group rep, coaches’ rep, program
chair and chairperson of the Olympic Section and currently chairperson
for the Metro Section committee

Majored in Economics – Yes, you may
see George reading the Barron’s or other corporate financial
sheets during events @ swim meets

Interests: married & father of two boys,
following baseball online, live music, being an aerobic gym rat,
and reading newspapers @ the local Starbucks

- 100 FLY record holder at San Gabriel High
School
- Currently a student of biochemistry at UCLA
- Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for City of
Alhambra
- USA Swimming registered swim coach
- Interests: UCLA Masters Swimming and UCLA
